  1. T)oggle.  Allows you to switch settings on RBBS.  If on, toggles to
  2. off.  If off, toggles to on.
  3.               The sub-options in TOGGLE are:
  4. B)ulletin.  On logon ask if to read bulletins only when new, or always.
  5. C)ase change.  Display characters in upper case only or uppper/lower.
  6. F)ile.  On logon give option to download new files, or not.
  7. L)ine feeds.  Insert line feed after each carriage return, or not.
  8. N)ulls.  Insert 5 nulls between carriage-return & line feed, or not.
  9. X)pert.  Show menus or only single command line.
  10. !)bell.  Beep whenever RBBS expects input or be silent.

  16. B)ulletin.  RBBS will skip bulletins automatically unless there are
  17. new bulletins since your last logon.  If you want option to read bulletins
  18. on log on everytime, whether or not there is anything new, turn this option
  19. off (check rather than skip new bulletins).  The sysop can disable this
  20. option for all users, forcing the bulletins to be always reviewed.

  22. TIPS:
  23. Why look at bulletins if there is nothing new?  You can always check
  24. bulletins at the main menu using the B) command.

  27. C)ase change:  Most home computer systems can display both upper and 
  28. lower case letters but some computers only display upper case.  The "C" 
  29. command toggles or alternates between "UPPER CASE ONLY" and "UPPER CASE 
  30. and lower case."

  33. F)ile.  RBBS will give you the option to review files new since your
  34. last logon right after giving your name and password.  If you want to
  35. wait until after you have check bulletins and mail before reviewing files
  36. for downloading, turn off this option.  The sysop can disable this option for
  37. all users.

  40. This option makes it fast and easy to check for new software on a board.

  43. N)ulls: Nulls put a delay at the beginning of each line that RBBS-PC 
  44. sends to your system. Entering "N" will toggle or alternate nulls on and 
  45. off, as you choose.  
  46.  
  47. The purpose of using nulls is to prevent your receiving device from 
  48. being overwhelmed with the rate that information is being sent. Most of 
  49. us go through our whole lives without the need for nulls, however.  
  50.  
  51. TIPS:  
  52.  
  53. 1. The main use for nulls is when you are using a printing terminal
  54. rather than an electronic terminal.  The nulls give your printer time
  55. for the print head to return from the right side to the left.
  56.  
  57. 2. Some printers cannot accept output as fast as RBBS-PC can send it.  
  58. Use nulls if you are capturing data directly to your printer and
  59. appear to be losing data.
  60.  
  61. 3. You can often save time and money by saving data to disk or memory 
  62. and printing at your leisure after logging off of RBBS-PC.
  63.  
  64. 4. Normally leave nulls off, because it will increase the characters
  65. transmitted.

  68. X)pert: RBBS-PC operates in two modes.  Novices get verbose menus,
  69. more detailed explanations, and extra warnings.  Experts get succinct
  70. command prompts having only the first letter.  The novice mode makes it
  71. easier to learn how to use RBBS but is slower.  Simply press the 
  72. "X" key to alternate or toggle between X)pert and Novice modes.

  76. 1. RBBS-PC recommends that you use the novice mode until you become 
  77. comfortable with its commands.  Switch over to expert after you know
  78. what you want to do and just want to do it fast.

  80. 2. The X)pert function is available everywhere.

  83. !)Prompt bell:  An auditory reminder (beep) to tell you when the
  84. computer is awaiting your input.  Some find it useful, some tiresome.

  86. TIPS:

  88. 1. The prompt bell is particularly helpful when downloading (or 
  89. uploading) large files, or a long list of files. You can leave your PC 
  90. and will be "called back" when RBBS-PC has finished sending (or 
  91. receiving) data.

  93. 2. Don't wander out of earshot! If you leave RBBS-PC unattended, you 
  94. will be automatically logged off after 3 minutes.
